HIE
The ability to develop and sustain Health Information Exchanges (HIE) at a state-wide level is challenged by two competing pressures. First, ensuring the continued success of the HIE itself, and second, maintaining proper balance between technology requirements and operational realities. For state governments, this pressure is compounded by federal stimulus funds as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
State governments must build consensus among stakeholders and develop models that deliver sustainable results. Sustainability is the ultimate goal for any HIE. The success and sustainability of an HIE is built on three key factors:
- Developing trust between HIE stakeholders and using that trust to obtain important financial data and information.
- Creating realistic, believable, and supported financial models to obtain the buy-in from all stakeholders.
- Providing various tools to respond to changes in the environment and make real time modifications to the financial model.
At Hielix, we understand the challenges that HIE planning and implementation may cause in the development of a statewide exchange. Not only for the business model created at the state level, but also in how those decisions affect implementation with local stakeholders and the reporting of information back to the state and federal government.
